Nann Mitchell Martin Columbia - Nann Mitchell Martin, 74, died early Friday morning, February 6th after a two year battle with lung cancer. Visitation was held at 2:30 in the Rosewood Baptist Church sanctuary on Sunday, February 8th. A Celebration of Life service immediately followed at 3:30 and was led by Pastor Louie McDonald. Nann was born June 22,1934 in Denmark, S.C. She was born to Lucius Oliver and Ada Clayton Mitchell. After her father’s death at about age 10, her mother became a house mother at Connie Maxwell Children’s Home in Greenwood, S.C. Nann was raised there until she attended Winthrop College in 1952. She later married Henry B. Martin, Sr. of Conway, SC and came to reside in Columbia, SC in 1954. Nann worked for Edisto Farms Dairy and was a decorator for Belk, J.B White, Sears, Luxury Fabric, and Forest Lake Fabric for a number of years. She loved sewing and was one of the few women in the world that loved to watch sports. She was a member of Rosewood Baptist Church and was blessed by God to have a kind heart and she used it to touch many people. In the end, she knew God, understood God was in control and He has given her rest.
Nann is survived by her sons, Henry B. (Marty)Martin, Jr. and wife Ann Cowsert Martin; Jeffrey Stewart Martin and wife Jackie Thompson Martin, both of Columbia and her daughter, Karla DeAna Martin Jenkins and husband Jay Dulan Jenkins of Apex, N.C.; grandchildren are Benjamin Stewart Martin, Elizabeth Ann Martin, Matthew Ryan Martin and Kelly Nicole Martin of Columbia; and McKenzie Rae Jenkins and Dylan Patrick Jenkins of Apex, N.C. Survivors include nephews, Robert Miller (Chuck)Hartman of Jefferson, S.C., Harry Anthony Cannon of Ocala, Fla. and Harry I. Mitchell of Edgewater, Fla., great-niece, Crystal Colburn Pound of West Columbia; as well as her favorite sports announcer, Terry Bradshaw and favorite football player, Brett Farve.
